9/11 Anniversary 2006 On November 6, 2006, a surprise twister struck Evansville, IN taking 25 lives, some of which were small children. The deadly storm damaged or destroyed nearly 1,000 homes and decimated The Baker Chapel in the tiny town of DeGonia Springs — a community of just 300 people amid the beautiful rolling farm country of Southwest Indiana.

9/11 Anniversary 2007 The Vincent family is an extraordinary American family. Three generations have run assisted-living centers for Disabled Veterans out of their homes, and the Vincents comprise nearly one-quarter of the 40-member Volunteer Fire Department of Groesbeck—a town of just 4,000 people half way between Dallas and Austin and just east of Waco.

9/11 Anniversary 2008 On May 4, 2007 an EF-5 tornado destroyed 95% of Greensburg, KS, demolishing an entire American town in mere minutes. On the 9/11 Anniversary 2008, The New York Says Thank You Foundation brought 200 New Yorkers to Greensburg and working in partnership with Kiowa Country EMA, Kansas 4-H Foundation, and South Central Kansas Tornado Recovery Organization, rebuilt the 14,000 square-foot Main Pavilion of Greensburg’s 4-H County Fairground in perhaps America’s largest “Barn-Raising.”

Started in 2003 at the suggestion of a 5-year-old boy, The New York Says Thank You Foundation has grown into one of the Nation’s leading organizations to transform the 9/11 Anniversary into a positive, hands-on platform for national volunteer service.

Each year on the 9/11 Anniversary, The New York Says Thank You Foundation sends hundreds of volunteers from New York along with disaster survivors from around the country to help rebuild communities around the United States recovering from disaster. It’s our way of saying “Thank You” for all the love and support Americans from across the country extended to New Yorkers in the days, weeks, and months following September 11.

The secret to our growing “pay it forward” movement is very simple: What we do is about 9/12.

Welcome to The New York Says Thank You Foundation.
